Are you a public library who has seen an increase in remote college students using your services? Has the enrollment cliff been a topic of discussion at your higher ed institution? While those two topics may seem far apart, there is a lot of overlap and opportunity.In 2019, Boise State University launched Community Impact Programs to implement comprehensive partnership in rural Idaho communities to provide specialized educational
programming, student support, and community engagement. In 2022, Boise State University launched the Strategic Enrollment and Retention Plan (SERP) to increase access to a Boise State degree and to support every student to reach graduation, regardless of their background, location or financial situation. This shift has focused on increasing community partnerships and a new librarian role at Boise State that focuses on transfer student success and working with rural initiatives.
This session discusses initiatives and strategies that are focused on student success, as well as initiatives designed to allow students to live and stay in their communities while finishing the next step of their education. We will discuss insights on how to leverage data to make student centered decisions, and cultivate cross-campus partnerships as well as community partnerships. As a group we will have the chance to share strategies on cultivating connections between public libraries, community colleges and four year institutions with a goal of identifying avenues of opportunity as well as barriers that we may be responsible for.
