Description

Snow avalanches pose a hazard to people and infrastructure in alpine environments. We deployed two infrasound arrays along the Milford Road in Fiordland, New Zealand (Aotearoa) to detect, locate, and characterize snow avalanche activity. The Milford Road is a unique avalanche environment because of (a) the immense scale of avalanche activity, (b) the plunging style of avalanches, and (c) the maritime climate, which means that the snow and avalanche characteristics conditions are different to those previously examined in infrasound studies. This data set contains infrasound recordings for four different snow avalanches (two triggered events and two natural events). Data are redundantly provided in .mat and .csv formats.
