About
Dr. Brian J. Jaques joined Boise State University in 2009, and is currently an assistant professor in the Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering, as well as the director of the Boise State Advanced Materials Laboratory (AML). He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in materials science and engineering, and his B.A. in mechanical engineering, from Boise State University. In addition, he is the Nuclear Energy Focus lead at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) in Idaho Falls, holds a joint appointment with the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Metallurgy and Materials Science in the state of Idaho. Dr. Jaques is the Boise State program director for the Advanced Sensors and Instrumentation (ASI) with the INL, which is a cross-disciplinary research program to develop and mature novel sensors for in-pile (in nuclear reactor core) applications that can provide real-time, accurate, and spatially resolved information regarding test conditions and the performance of fuels and materials during irradiation. In addition, Dr. Jaques’ research interests are primarily related to materials for extreme environments, energy materials, and nuclear enabling technologies, including: nuclear fuel synthesis, sensor design, sintering, corrosion, gas-solid reaction kinetics, mechanochemistry, particle science/powder synthesis, and mechanical behaviour of materials.
