About

Dr. Donna Calhoun's current research interests are in finite-volume methods for solving hyperbolic, parabolic and elliptic PDEs in complex geometry. In particular, she is interested in methods for structured quadrilateral and hexahedral meshes, uniform Cartesian cut-cell (embedded geometry) methods, and numerical methods for solving PDEs on non-Euclidean surfaces. Application areas in which she has been involved include modeling of combustion processes, pattern formation in biology, crystal growth, and modeling of atmospheric flows on the sphere.
Dr. Calhoun has a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Washington. She was a Research Scientist at the Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique in France from 2005 through 2010. In 2011 she joined the Mathematics faculty at Boise State University.
