Dr. Yong-Hwan Kim joined Boise State University in 2024 as a Professor with the School of Allied Health Sciences and the Director of the Neuroscience Program. He received his Ph.D. in neuroscience/physiological science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2006. He received his M.S. in biotechnology from Korea University in Seoul in 1998. In 2012, he established his own lab as a tenure-track assistant professor at Delaware State University and, in this lab, has trained 2-3 post-docs, 9+ graduate students, and more than 38 undergraduate students to perform Parkinson's disease (PD)-related research using molecular cellular neuroscience-based techniques. Dr. Kim's research interests have focused on studying the role of post-translational modifications such as SUMOylation in the pathology of PD. His career goal as a researcher is to develop potential therapeutics for preventing or slowing PD progression, as well as alleviating its symptoms based on emerging understandings of the pathology of PD.
