    Joining Boise State University in 2017, Dr. James Beauchemin is currently an Associate Professor with the School of Social Work.  He earned a Ph.D. in Social Work from Ohio State University in 2015 and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Vermont focusing on mental health in 2006.  Prior to coming to Boise State Dr. Beauchemin taught at Ohio State University, and worked as a Senior Staff Therapist and Social Work Coordinator. Dr. Beauchemin’s research interests include wellness promotion, integrated mind-body-spirit interventions, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and the mental health of college students.  He has been awarded research funding by the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Association (SFBTA) and the National Consortium for Building Healthy Academic Communities (BHAC), and has presented papers and conducted trainings at local, regional, and national conferences. Current projects include the development of a web-based solution-focused wellness intervention for college students, as well as examining the effectiveness of integrated body-mind-spirit interventions in the treatment of Schizophrenia and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Dr. Beauchemin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and has extensive practice experience including clinical work in a university counseling center, community mental health, school social work, and private practice. His expertise in health-related behavior change has led to opportunities such as serving as a Subject Matter Expert for the American Council on Exercise, and providing wellness-focused training for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Dr. Beauchemin is passionate about preparing exceptional social workers, and has taught multiple undergraduate and graduate courses in social work practice, research, multicultural perspectives, and youth development, as well as cross-discipline teaching in Counselor Education and Kinesiology. He was the recipient of both the Ohio State University 2016 Field Instructor of the Year, and 2016 BSW Excellence in Teaching awards.Dr. Beauchemin is currently a member of a number of professional associations including: the Council on Social Work Education, the American Council on Exercise (ACE), and the National Guild of Hypnotists.
