    John McChesney came to Boise State from the University of Oregon where he earned his doctorate in Neuromuscular Control in 1996 while studying in the Human Motor Control Laboratory (Woollacott lab) of the Institute of Neuroscience. Serving as an NATA-BOC certified athletic trainer since 1984, Professor McChesney has extensive experience in the evaluation and treatment of injuries to athletes as well as neuroscience. Prior to being appointed as Kinesiology Department Chair, Dr. McChesney served as Athletic Training Program Director from 1996 to 2013.
    Professor McChesney’s research interests lie in examining the somatosensory contributors to motor performance and orthopedic rehabilitation. Along with fellow faculty and numerous graduate students, professor McChesney has conducted research in the Athletic Training/Motor Control Laboratory. In attempt to contribute to the fields of neuroscience as well as athletic training, he has completed projects on the effects on proprioception by eccentric exercise, changes in gravity, cryotherapy, training with the SportsRac rehabilitation system, the treatment of gleno-humeral internal rotation deficit as well as the effect of a common motion sickness medication on postural control.
