    Laurie Cavey is a professor of mathematics education in the Department of Mathematics at Boise State University. Prior to her employment at Boise State, Dr. Cavey was an Associate Professor at James Madison University where she received an award for excellence in teaching and scholarship. Also while at James Madison, Dr. Cavey served as the director of The Content Teaching Academy, a summer program for teachers looking to enhance their professional knowledge and skills. She thoroughly enjoys teaching mathematics courses for future teachers and opportunities to lead workshops with classroom teachers. In the scholarly realm, she specializes in mathematical knowledge for teaching concepts related to algebra, functions, and mathematical modeling. She has studied the ways instructors think about teaching mathematical ideas such as slope and definitions, and is currently involved with a project that is striving to leverage the examination of students' mathematical ideas for transforming the way we educate teachers.
