Dr. Lindsey R. Turner started at Boise State University in 2014. She is a Research Professor with the College of Education, and director of the Center for School and Community Partnerships. Her work focuses on community-engaged initiatives to build school settings that allow all children and adolescents to thrive. Dr. Turner received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago, specializing in health behavior and prevention science, with a post-doctoral fellowship studying the rigorous evaluation of how policies, systems changes, and other evidence-based interventions are implemented. She also received an M.A. in clinical psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. For the past 25 years, Dr. Turner’s work has centered on supporting K-12 schools, particularly focusing on whole child health and wellbeing, with outcomes such as nutrition security, physical health, mental health, and academic achievement. Her research has been funded by a variety of local, state, and national agencies, through more than $75 million in grants and contracts since 2004. Dr. Turner has been principal investigator on grants from organizations such as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and federal agencies including the Institute for Education Sciences, National Institute of Justice, National Institutes of Health, and the US Department of Agriculture. She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed research articles and editorials in top journals such as JAMA, Prevention Science, Journal of School Health, and American Journal of Public Health. Currently, Dr. Turner leads Project SCALES (Supporting Community Agriculture and Local Education Systems), which is administering more than $16 million in funding from USDA for large-scale community-based efforts to strengthen school food systems across the nation.
