Dr. Marion Scheepers earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Kansas, and joined the faculty of the Department of Mathematics at Boise State University in 1988. His research interests are in set theory (including combinatorics, game theory and Ramsey theory), cryptology, biomolecular computing paradigms, and computational algebra and number theory.
In recent years, with grant funding from the National Science Foundation, Dr. Scheepers has collaborated with researchers from the University of Witten-Herdecke in Germany, and the Boise State Department of Biological Sciences to study biological encryption mechanisms in certain single cell organisms. He hopes that this research can help pave the way for more interdisciplinary opportunities for students. Additionally, in 2012 Dr. Scheepers was honored as a Distinguished Professor in Mathematics. This title constitutes one of the highest honors that can be given to a faculty member at Boise State and is reserved for a small number who have made major contributions to their academic disciplines.
