    Dr. Sophia L. Borgias joined Boise State University in 2021 and is currently an Assistant Professor with the School of Public Service.  She earned both a Ph.D. in Geography with a minor in Law and an M.A. in Geography with a certificate in Water Policy from the University of Arizona.  Dr. Borgias is a human-environment geographer with interests in water and environmental governance in the arid Americas.  Her most recent research focuses on rural-to-urban water transfers in the American West, with an emphasis on their impacts for Indigenous land and water rights.  Dr. Borgias is currently a member of the American Association of Geographers and the Association of Pacific Coast Geographers.
