About

Dr. Abramenka-Lachheb is an experienced learning designer, educator, and scholar with a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology and a minor in Human–Computer Interaction from Indiana University Bloomington. As an expert design practitioner, she has designed, developed, and implemented a variety of academic and non-academic courses, including employee training and professional development programs. She has also led and contributed to faculty development efforts, public health training programs, and large-scale instructional design projects supported by NIH, HRSA, and USAID.

She has received recognition for her design work, teaching, and research, including the Outstanding Practice by a Graduate Student in Instructional Design award from the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT), a teaching award from the Indiana University School of Education, and first and third place in AECT’s Theory Spotlight Competition.

With over a decade of teaching experience, her teaching spans undergraduate and graduate courses in instructional design, instructional technology, and communication, as well as cross-border education initiatives between the U.S. and China. Her teaching emphasizes authentic and practice-oriented learning experiences that connect academic content to real-world application, prioritizing student ownership and engagement.

Her research focuses on how learning experiences are designed to be meaningful, situationally relevant, and engaging from both the designer and learners' perspective, especially in online settings. Her work explores the intersection of authentic learning and user experience (UX) design, and how these approaches support learners across diverse educational and cultural contexts. She has also published research on professional development through informal learning in professional networks and Communities of Practice. She is actively expanding her research toolkit through training in applied data science, with emphasis on Python programming, data analysis, visualization, machine learning, network analysis, and natural language processing, all in support of her research goals and to benefit her students.

Dr. Abramenka-Lachheb serves as Associate Editor for the International Journal of Designs for Learning and is a regular reviewer for leading journals in educational technology and instructional design, such as Educational Technology Research and Development (ETR&D) and Computers in Higher Education.
