Abstract

This article complements Domain 4: Growth and Development, found on page 16. In this article we describe how coaches can apply principles of athlete growth and development to the learning and performance of motor skills. Though the concepts may appear to be daunting, we feel coaches can realistically acquire habits that are essential for successful coaching. Grounded in current motor development research, these habits lead to well-rounded athletes who experience increased enjoyment, self-motivation, skill improvement, and ultimately more success on the playing field.
