One is already probably familiar with factors—such as depleted resources for employee development and an aging workforce that may create shortfalls of experienced managerial talent for senior leadership positions (Rothwell, 2002)—against trends such as a attening of organizational structures and workforce challenges as the baby boomer generation retires (Groves, 2007) that have activated discussions of succession planning and management.
