Abstract
I describe my research with undergraduates and with physics and non-physics colleagues, and my experience growing physics research at a developing public university in an EPSCoR state by mentoring junior faculty and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations. As a new physics professor, I began with a focus on mentoring undergraduate collaborators for my own research program in condensed-matter theory. In order to grow research and to better serve undergraduate students, I was drawn to working collaboratively to create academic and research programs within and beyond my department, to thinking strategically about research directions for the department, and to making changes in our undergraduate physics degree program.
