Abstract
Spending time outdoors in natural spaces can lead to both physical and mental health benefits. Boise State University's downtown-based campus offers unique access to over 190 miles of open-access trail systems called the "Ridge to Rivers Trail System" (RTR), with trailheads as near as 1 mile from campus. The presenters will highlight the collaborative efforts between Boise State University faculty and staff with the Boise Parks and Recreation Department in creating and fostering a student-run Trail Ambassador program. The Trail Ambassador program aims to encourage students to access the RTR Trail System, as well as help support trail sustainability and maintenance, to experience benefits surrounding their well-being. The presenters will explore whether a student-run trail ambassador program will increase student utilization of the RTR Trail System and have any linked health outcomes to their participation.
