Abstract

How can instructors highlight the key terms from course materials that students need to understand and use effectively? In this hands-on workshop, presenters guide participants through the steps to (1) select written or oral texts most appropriate for their classrooms, (2) create a word list that features the most salient vocabulary in those texts, and (3) design activities using those terms. Samples are provided for beginning through advanced levels and for multiple instructional settings, from primary to university to adult education. Participants will leave the workshop with classroom-ready word lists and activities. No prior experience working with corpora is needed.
