Abstract

Thermal field-flow fractionation (ThFFF) separates polymers by their molecular weight and chemical composition. Recent advances in our ability to predict the thermal diffusion of copolymers allows us to extract compositional information on copolymers from ThFFF retention data, provided certain conditions are met. In the method presented in this paper, viscosity and ThFFF retention data in two separate solvents is used to obtain both the molecular weight and chemical composition of a copolymer which meet the required conditions.
