Abstract
Construction site availability of advanced portable computing, multimedia, and wireless communications allows, even encourages fundamental changes in many jobsite processes. One process amenable to such change is field inspection. Using emerging technologies and information systems, the Field Inspection Reporting System (FIRS) project suggests new processes or 'reengineers' the traditional AEC field inspection process. This paper addresses work to date on the FIRS system, an ongoing component of the Construction Information Technology 21 project at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
