Abstract
The recital will feature some of the composer’s best-known works, including four song transcriptions and excerpts from “Porgy & Bess” and “An American in Paris.” The program will culminate with a performance of “Rhapsody in Blue.”
Gershwin is considered America’s finest Broadway and classical composer. The presentation will incorporate visual images to dramatize the famous composer’s life story. The accompanying narration will traverse his fascinating formative years, a formidable career on Broadway and an astonishing shift to incorporate Broadway and popular tunes into classical music.
