Abstract
The Field Inspection Reporting System (FIRS) is an ongoing project to enhance field inspection processes through integration and implementation of available emerging technologies. An overview of the FIRS project has been previously documented. Although the FIRS project investigates a variety of technologies, this paper discusses the integration of personal digital assistants and digital cameras as input devices for the FIRS system. These devices provide an efficient, low cost system for field inspection data collection. This paper addresses the input devices in the context of current field testing of the FIRS system.
