Abstract

This chapter presents the fundamental equations governing the physical behavior of PCMs in melting and solidification. The classical Stefan problem is discussed, along with the way in which natural convection present in the melting phase can change the motion of the melt front. Various methods are presented to account for changes in effective thermal conductivity when foams and nanoparticles are used.
