Global Citizenship and Social Responsibility

During the spring 2013 semester, undergraduates enrolled in the interdisciplinary class Global Citizenship and Social Responsibility collaboratively researched ways to address global issues of poverty and social inequity. Using a framework of social responsibility from the context of integrated educational, health, and engineering systems, undergraduates used their findings to develop service-learning projects to address community needs in Corozal, Belize. Service-learning projects were put into action during spring break, allowing undergraduates to see the results of their research and gain new insights that inform their perspectives on global citizenship and social responsibility. Participants in this panel will share insights in response to the research question, “What does it mean to be a socially responsible global citizen?”
