Abstract
On March 11, 2014, the comedy website Funny or Die posted an interview between then-president Barack Obama and Zach Galifinakis for its Web series Between Two Ferns . The appearance was among many Obama made in an effort to encourage young Americans to sign up for health insurance as part of the Affordable Care Act—his signature healthcare legislation. But it was also something more, wrote Lauren Duca of the Huffington Post . The appearance was part of a larger project that Obama and his team had been working on since he first announced his candidacy in 2007, a goal best summarized as the ambition to make the president and his administration "go viral."(1)
