Abstract
Leadership and leadership development is a complex discussion and the literature that surrounds it is vast. Traditionally, leadership has been conceptualized as an individual skill level (Day, 2001).
Among the various leadership theories, transformational leadership theory suggests that leaders engage in behaviors such as charisma, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration (Bass, 1985). For a business to be successful, Thurow (1999) argued: “Businesses must be willing to destroy the old while it is still successful if they wish to build the new that will be successful. If they don’t destroy themselves, others will destroy them” (p. 59).
