Abstract

Introduction
What allows you to do transactions, to do commerce, to exchange money without an intermediary such as a bank or a credit-card company (Tapscott, 2016)? What allows you do do all of these without the physical representation of a currency? What was the first decentralized cryptocurrency in 2009, is a peer-to-peer online virtual currency, and is a leading digital currency globally (Sagona-Stophel, 2013)? In Q4 2016, as a key player, what currency had a market capitalization of over $15 billion (Das, 2016) with a mission to create a stable worldwide currency for the Internet (Bosker, 2013)?
The answer is Bitcoin.
