Abstract

So, what is common between benchmarking, balanced scorecard, Porter’s five forces, the GE-McKinsey nine-box matrix, core competencies, and the BCG growth-share matrix?
These are a subset of tools that a performance improvement practitioner has access to in order to analyze the performance of a company. Similarly, classroom assessment, reflective essays, test score analysis, scoring rubrics, and so on are instances of various types of assessment tools to assess mastery and knowledge of principles and skills in education. And, Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Benefit-Cost ration, Cost-Effectiveness, and Payback Period are tools to evaluate a project. There are tools to evaluate the performance of an employee, a program, an organization, a website, and the list goes on.
