Managing for the Long Term: Toward the Growth and Development of the Field of Performance Improvement Part 4 - Toward "Wisdom" in Our Field

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

“A better future (than the one resulted from relying on limited cognition, relative knowledge, perception, and truth) is possible if we look beyond the accumulative assumptions about knowledge (and technology) to wisdom.” (Rooney, McKenna, & Liesch, 2010, p. 17).
This quote by Rooney et al. prompted me to question whether this thought process could apply to the current state of our field and whether we could look to building wisdom so that we may perhaps grow and develop the field of performance improvement? There is much to read about wisdom and organizational wisdom and the goal here is not to simplify a discussion that has ensued for eons, but try to understand it so that we may improve upon the current status of our field.
