Abstract
Following the introduction of the Community Apgar Questionnaire (CAQ) used by critical access hospitals (CAHs) and community health centers to support physician recruitment, this presentation debuts an entirely new CAQ tool which was designed to promote nursing recruitment and retention in Idaho CAHs. The nursing CAQ was developed in 2010 and field tested in 2011 at 11 Idaho CAHs. This research demonstrated the nursing CAQ was useful in assessing nursing workforce success using the 50 factors and five classes of the nursing CAQ and produced a statewide comparative database of advantages and challenges ratings as well as importance ratings across the 50 nursing factors. The nursing Apgar program was piloted in three Idaho CAH in 2012. The nursing Apgar program provides customized feedback to CAHs regarding nursing recruitment and retention at the facility. The presentation will detail the statewide comparative database findings and the nursing Apgar program’s data and experience.
