Abstract
Donald Trump will almost certainly never appear on the popular web series Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifinakis . I begin with this disclaimer because many of the contributors who follow in this volume—including me—note President Barack Obama's purportedly groundbreaking appearance on this short format internet program and argue that it epitomized the forty-fourth president's pioneering turn as chief executive during this digital age. Obama did more to take the presidency directly to the people—going around the so-called mainstream press, including the White House press corps—even when this meant engaging formats outside of historical norms. And so Obama, among other things, sat for chats with late night hosts, podcasters, YouTube vloggers, and, yes, maybe most famously, Galifinakis.
