Abstract

An analysis of the impact of political influences on the adoption of financial incentives for renewable energy by state governments finds that adoption is motivated chiefly by political factors, most importantly partisanship in state offices and political culture. Economics is by far the most important aspect in the adoption of tax incentives, but culture is the most important for adoption of grants and loan programs.
