Reclamation

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

Reclamation is a tense social thriller about class, masculinity, technology, land, art, resentment and birth. It takes place during an impossible late-spring snowstorm in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where a wealthy tech exile and his pregnant artist wife become trapped in their expensive modern house while local men with old claims to the land circle them, exploit them, and finally invade. The title refers to several kinds of reclamation: reclaimed wood and old mill parts used in the house, Bruce Wheeler's sense that the land should still belong to his family, Stuart's pathetic desire to reclaim his manhood, and Drew's impossible wish to reclaim a life he thinks Micheline briefly offered him.
