Abstract

Elderly patients who face food insecurity due to poverty, experience poorer outcomes in relation to recovery from hip fractures. Seniors are on a low fixed income which leads to food insecurities that may result in poor nutrition which can delay wound healing and impair wound strength. In turn, putting them at risk for prolonged hospital stays, greater postoperative complications, a greater risk of re-hospitalizations, and a greater incidence of postoperative death. Our implementation plan could help older adults receive adequate nutrition to reduce falls and prevent hip fracture. This can impact practices in various healthcare entities and reduce overall costs.
