Abstract
This webinar will provide a thorough description of the highly effective Icelandic Prevention Approach (IPA) to youth substance abuse which took rates of youth alcohol abuse from 42% to 6%. The IPA originated from the Icelandic Centre for Social Research and Analysis and now thrives as the “Planet Youth” project, expanding into several countries including Australia, Chile, and many others. Recently, our team has been working to translate this approach into the American Opioid Epidemic, with pilot projects in various phases in West Virginia, Vermont, and Idaho. Because the presenter is a direct member of the Planet Youth team, a discussion of the translation process and several practical examples will be shared and discussed with participants.
