Abstract

When an extraordinary academic retires, we can tally their contributions to the field through grant dollars, publications, and citations. Other indicators of scholarly influence are the number of students advised and the quality of scholarship they produce. While John Sullivan easily exceeds most of his peers on these measures, we believe that the most remarkable story of his career is his personal and effective approach to mentoring. John transformed the field of political psychology through his caring mentorship of hundreds of individual students.
