State of the Field: A Rudimentary Perspective Around Consequences

Abstract

As performance improvement professionals, we are known to continuously make decisions. The decisions we make have consequences. So does inaction. Brunsson (2007) explains that decision makers are aware of possible consequences of their decisions and may actively try to use decision processes to support or reduce some of the consequences. The purpose of decisions is to achieve certainty, to determine and to stabilize the future (Brunsson, 2007). A classic tactic among oppositional groups is to resort to rationality in decision processes by arguing that more preferences, alternatives, and consequences should be analyzed and taken into consideration (Brunsson, 2007).
