Abstract

The article presents a case study of a television news report called "Stupid in America: How Lack of Choice Cheats Our kids Out of a Good Education" that appeared on the program "20/20" that aired on January 13, 2006 and was done by journalist John Stossel. In it, Stossel promoted charter schools by showing that public schools are inadequate. The report generated criticism from teachers for misconstruing his findings or using dubious research methods.
