Abstract

There is an increasing demand and critical importance for those in academic positions to be conducting high quality research in addition to teaching well. Successfully obtaining grants is often critical to fund such scientific inquiry and should therefore be emphasized in doctoral training programs. The authors are recent graduates of a doctoral program, and have since learned additional lessons in their new faculty positions about successful grant writing that they wish would have been included in their own graduate training. Ten simple grant writing tips are provided and discussed in an attempt to promote the early career success of other new investigators seeking funding for their own research.
