Abstract

This presentation will share results of a single-case research design study in which three young adult with autism, ages 19-26, used a technology-based self-monitoring application and visual supports to improve their conversation skills. Participants selected a community-based location of their choice to participate in structured conversation sessions with same-age peers. Participants will be able to: 1. Receive an overview of the relevant social skills literature to enhance the conversation skills of young adults with ASD. 2. Learn about results of a recently conducted single case research design study in which three young adults with ASD used a technology-based self-monitoring application and visual supports to increase their number of questions asked during structured conversation sessions with same-age peers. 3. Receive a step-by-step process for combining existing evidence-based practices, such as self-monitoring and visual supports, to best meet the individualized needs of young adults with ASD in community settings.
