Abstract
In the post Soviet era, academic study of the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania has allowed for the creation of a history that is more inclusive than it was in the past. This inclusiveness has broadened the chronological, geographical and cultural scope of what has been considered Lithuania and made for a more nuanced picture of the past. Yet at the same time it is not clear that the broader historiography of the past is making its way into public consciousness. Yet there are positive indicators such as the restoration of the Palace of Grand Dukes which may indicate that the current conception of national identity is becoming more inclusive in its conception of what is “our” history and memory of the past and that it includes the memory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
