Abstract
Media, education and neoliberalism further the coloniality of power as assimilationist labels position students as subjects. Narrativized Western logic becomes basis for civic performativity as media accounts conceal power, supporting the constructing the logic for whom and what is citizen. These ties bind us to the ideal citizen, to which all others must endeavor to become. In school, lessons support the production of student/citizen rather than what might otherwise be transformative and active citizenship. Education after requires teaching the critical social analysis, taking a Hippocratic approach to the coloniality of power.
