Theory and Practice of Performance Improvement: Where are We Headed as a Field?

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

When your organization is faced with instances of poor workflow, misused resources, and reduced responsiveness to change, whom are you going to call?
An organization design consultant will insist that these are symptoms of an ineffective organization design. When we talk about expertise in coaching, mentoring, and career development, what functional group comes to mind? Similarly, for inputs on ergonomics and safety engineering, which subject matter expert will the decision makers within your organization seek out? But, as performance improvement practitioners, we recognize them as a subset of the vast repertoire of interventions we purportedly possess.
