Abstract

Intranets can be crucial tools in fostering communication within an academic library. This article describes the successful implementation of an intranet wiki at the San Diego State University Library & Information Access. The steps involved with implementing, marketing, and supporting the MediaWiki software are described, and the results of a user survey are discussed. The survey, which was answered 50 percent by intranet users, indicated that while the intranet was well used by all respondents, librarians were more active and more comfortable using the editing features of the wiki software. Recommendations for similar projects are offered based on the findings and experiences.
