Abstract

Noted Guyanese artist, writer, and archaeologist Denis Williams was born in Georgetown, Guyana. After he graduated from high school in 1941, Williams was awarded a British Council scholarship to attend the Camberwell School of Arts in London (1946-1948). In 1949, he returned to Guyana, where he focused on a series of locally based works that were shown in private exhibitions. Returning to England in 1950, he taught at the Central School of Fine Arts in London. During this period, his noted artwork Human World was reproduced in Time magazine.
