Abstract

Biofuels extracted from biomass (the fourth most abundant renewable energy source) is a primary alternative for Fossil Fuels. Though biomass is abundant in the world, lack of mature technology to predict the quality of biofuel extracted at the biomass production plant is restricting its ability to reach full potential. This poster presents work on methods to analyze the quality of corn stover, a source of biomass that does not compete with food production. This work focuses on using x-ray imaging to determine the quality of the stover by detecting the presence of soil, rocks, and metal in corn stover bales.
